Tooth whitening

Whitening, also known as bleaching or teeth whitening, can remove tooth discoloration and make your teeth sparkle white again.

Beautiful, naturally white teeth definitely contribute to an attractive appearance and are associated with vitality, health and success in today’s society.

However, whitening does not only lighten teeth. Discoloration caused by coffee, tea and tobacco consumption is removed beforehand as part of a professional tooth cleaning (PZR). PZR also cares for the gums and has the advantage that gum inflammation can be reversed.

Teeth whitening or bleaching is always performed after a professional teeth cleaning (PZR). Your teeth will return to their original color or, if you wish, you can whiten your teeth brighter than ever.

When is it advisable to whiten or bleach teeth?
Teeth whitening is always recommended for aesthetic reasons only, but especially if you want brighter, whiter teeth and you want to give your smile a very special “glow”.

It is advisable to consider teeth whitening BEFORE any other treatment in the following cases:

Before receiving a ceramic filling or a high quality ceramic inlay . Crowns and fillings cannot be bleached. Therefore, if you are considering whitening, you should have it done before receiving a filling or crown. So it’s better to do it from the beginning!
This also applies before the use of a bridge, an implant or veneers without preparation.
In-office whitening or at-home whitening?
In our dental practice we work mainly with “in-office whitening”, that is, whitening teeth directly in the dental office. The advantage of in-office whitening is that the entire treatment only takes approximately 1.5 hours and is therefore fully completed and can also be monitored and controlled. This ensures that the desired teeth whitening result is satisfactory for the patient. Above all, the results of in-office whitening are immediately visible.

Home whitening: If you wish to whiten your teeth at home, we can also manufacture two plastic trays (upper and lower jaw). However, experience has shown that many patients find the at-home whitening method too time-consuming and tedious (although at-home teeth whitening can also achieve good results if used consistently). We only recommend home bleaching if the patient has sufficient free time and is very disciplined in performing the necessary steps each day. Advantage of home whitening: You will be able to reuse your trays later to whiten them and quickly give your teeth a new shine.

In our dental practice we use the Easy White whitening system from the German company Delta Med (35% hydrogen peroxide) in combination with a plasma lamp from Schütz Dental (Crealight) to gently achieve optimal whitening results so that you can enjoy your whites for as long as possible with your teeth.

How does the whitening gel for white teeth work?
The active ingredient of the whitening gel, which is activated by plasma light, is hydrogen peroxide. Plasma light promotes the penetration of hydrogen peroxide into the tooth surface. When hydrogen peroxide decomposes, oxygen penetrates the tooth enamel and dentin and whitens the tooth without changing the tooth structure.

Get a sparkling white smile in 90 minutes with a professional teeth whitening system.

Bleaching treatment process:
The teeth and gums are prepared by protecting all surfaces that should not come into contact with the whitening gel, such as lips and gums, with a silicone mask.
Whitening gel (Easy White by Delta Med) is applied to the teeth.

The whitening gel is activated with the plasma lamp and left to act for 15 minutes.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 a total of 3 times (apply bleaching gel, activate with plasma lamp, leave for 15 minutes).
The last step of whitening consists of applying a protective gel on the teeth for 5 minutes.
Then rinse your mouth and admire the result: perfect white teeth! You can go home and enjoy your new smile!

What do I need to consider AFTER teeth whitening?
After teeth whitening, care should be taken not to drink coffee, red wine, cola or tea or eat carrots, beets or any food that strongly discolors for 2 days. Smoking should also be avoided if possible. This way you can ensure that your whitened teeth stay beautiful and white for as long as possible.

Since a slight darkening is to be expected within the first few days to two weeks, we recommend always allowing the teeth to lighten a little more than desired, i.e. “whiten them completely”, so to speak.

If you take care of your teeth as recommended after teeth whitening, your teeth will always be whiter than before. They will never be as dark as they were before whitening (although after 3 or 4 years the teeth may darken slightly in some shades, depending on your eating habits and careful care of your teeth). So you can preserve the brightness and beauty of your teeth. To maintain your health for as long as possible, we recommend brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing or using interdental brushes, as well as having your teeth professionally cleaned regularly, at least twice a year.
